Fuel Type Matters
The fuel your generator burns affects operating costs, runtime, maintenance, and environmental impact. Choosing the wrong type can mean paying more per kWh or being unable to run when you need it most.
Diesel
Most popular for commercial and industrial generators above 150 kW. Highest energy density means more runtime per tank. Engines last 20,000-30,000 hours when maintained. Higher upfront cost and requires on-site fuel storage. Best for: large facilities, construction sites, remote locations, extended runtime applications.
Natural Gas
Connects directly to utility gas line for virtually unlimited runtime. Lower fuel cost per kWh and cleaner burning. Gas pressure may drop during widespread emergencies. Best for: urban and suburban businesses with reliable gas service.
Propane
Indefinite shelf life. Burns cleanly. Available anywhere via delivery. Requires on-site tank installation. Best for: rural businesses without natural gas and facilities wanting clean-burning fuel with long storage life.
Dual Fuel
Operates on either natural gas or propane. Maximum flexibility if one source fails. Best for businesses wanting the convenience of gas with the security of a propane backup.
